I am a geek and I say that with unabashed pride and no remorse. Now don’t get it twisted, I am not an "eat the head of a live chicken", circus/carnie kind of geek. I am an Internet cruising (black folks don’t surf, we cruise), computer hugging, Linux loving, Wired Magazine reading, techno head and gadget junkie. I don’t fit into the stereotypical, mainstream image of a geek. I don’t have a green mop of hair or any hair for that matter. I’m in my fifties, a health care professional and married to a wonderful woman that could give a damn about a computer.
In August of 2000 I bought my first computer and thinking back I don’t recall what prompted me to do so. It may have been this guy a work bought one and seem to having so much fun. All I know is this beige box has brought the best and the worst in me. But back to this geek thing, in the life of a geek there are many landmarks (or should I say bookmarks) events that point to higher geekdom. Some of these landmarks may be owning your first computer, learning to navigate with proficiency the World Wide Web, installing and learning a new operating system and of course, building your first computer.
And now a fairly new e-activity has been added to the cyberscape, blogging short for weblogging. A blog is an online journal that provides more flexibilty and interactivity than your standard web page or site.Blogs can be silly or serious, politically partisan or wildly personal, informative or to be taken with a grain of salt or a combination of all these things.
So come along with me as I attempt to find my voice and place in the blogosphere ( I did not make this world up) I may do book, film, music reviews, opinions or just talk trash. This is a journey…
